Earlier this month, the editor of Lowestoft Chronicle nominated “Fish,” by Mark Jacobs (issue 65, March 1, 2026), for the O. Henry Prize—a long-running annual award recognizing exceptional short fiction first published in literary magazines across the U.S. Congratulations to Mark Jacobs on this distinction, and thank you to every contributor whose work makes each nomination season both rewarding and challenging.
About the O. Henry Prize
Established in 1919, the O. Henry Prize annually honors short stories of outstanding merit. Each year, a selection of stories is chosen from hundreds of submissions to appear in The O. Henry Prize Stories anthology, a collection renowned for celebrating both established and emerging writers. The prize is named in tribute to O. Henry (William Sydney Porter), whose enduring legacy as a master of the short story continues to inspire writers and editors alike.
